Welcome.
This site is dedicated to the portraiture of Kevin Murphy.
The artwork on this site is all hand painted using techniques and traditions developed by the old masters. Though I have limitless respect for the accomplishments of the great artisans of the past, it is not my interest to impersonate them. I endeavor to learn the same lessons they learned, and utilize those techniques to craft paintings that sing with my voice.
My portraits are painted in oil on Belgium linen and supported by hand crafted museum grade stretchers. No detail is overlooked in the creation of these heirlooms. When properly cared for, these paintigns will survive for hundreds of years.
All of that said, I don't believe that the true success of my portraits lies within the materials or techniques I employ. A truly successful portrait always captures more than just a physical likeness - it captures personality. Representing the physical aspects as well as the soul of the sitter is what I strive for in every portrait. To capture a tangible memory of what makes you and your loved ones special and unique.
Capturing the essence of a sitter is the key to breathing life into a painting and making it a great work of art. A painting should be created to captivate its viewers, and when successful, it will defy passive viewing. The paintings on this site are my attempts at producing paintings which address this end.
I hope that you enjoy my paintings as much as I have enjoyed creating them.
I hope you had an enjoyable visit and look forward to you returning to my site.
Due to the labor-intensive process of crafting these portraits, I accept approximately eight commissions per year. I will post new paintings every three to six months as works are completed. If you would like to be notified when new paintings are posted, please contact me and I will add you to my e-mailing list.

For more information about the work contained within my site or commissioning a portrait, please feel free to contact me using the link on this page.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you.
